Winter Outdoor Furniture Protection 27th October 2011
Suggestions on keeping your Pagoda Furniture in tip-top condition over the winter.
The drawing in of the nights, the sense of the first frost and the dropping of the mercury all herald a challenging time of year for outdoor enthusiasts – the onset of winter. But, with a little proper planning and preparation, this need not be a season of panic and despair; you can ensure that your high quality Pagoda garden furniture and outdoor living equipment is protected from the harsh reality of a British winter by following a few simple steps.

Ensure that they stay as dry as possible. This can involve moving them into sheds, into conservatories, or perhaps just closer to two walls near a corner of your house to reduce the amount of exposure they have. Additionally, if you use a cover, try putting something about the size of a football under the cover to encourage run-off after heavy rain.

Store your furniture upright and in the correct position. Many pieces of modern furniture feature drain holes allowing the winter rain to escape quickly and easily. If these are not allowed to function as intended because the furniture is not sat in the correct position then moisture can accumulate and your can run the risk of rust appearing in joints and other crucial sections of your furniture.

Give them a touch up. Ensuring that all worn/bare areas are kept up to standard with paint or varnish top ups is vital. Additionally, for metal areas, consider treating them with a light wax to act as an external protector which will encourage run off – similar to the principle employed by enthusiastic car cleaners and waxers.

And, lastly, the wonders of a good wash and clean down cannot be overstated – a bowl full of water, some mild soap and a soft-bristled brush can assist your hosepipe or pressure washer to clean wooden or metal furniture. You’d be surprised at the effect. Just make sure you machine wash the cushions first! And, hopefully, you’ll be a few steps along the road to ensuring your garden furniture stays protected and serves you better and for longer.
